Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner

This friendly breed has only been in the United States since 2014.  Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner roosters’ weight may top out at over 10 lbs.  They are truly a dual-purpose bird as 6 hens have consistently laid anywhere from 1 to 6 eggs since they started laying at around 5-6 months old until going through their first molt.  Stay connected via A Country Girls Heart – Beats that Matter and Niederrheiner Chickens for available hatching eggs, day old chicks, pullets or roosters.  In the future look for the ability to order from this web site.  Look for more information to be added about this docile, beautiful breed.

The fertility with this breed has been a struggle for me. I do not like to give up. I am currently growing out two cockerals hatched by Dru. These two handsome boys joined the hens on October 18, 2019. Below you will find a short video of Cisco and Clinch.

The Latest Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner Offspring

I have tested the fertility of Cisco and Clinch. I am happy to report I have hatched chicks from them via hens which are 50% Swedish Flower Hen and 50% percent Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner (LCN). Now I wait for my lone LCN hen to start laying again. This breed has definitely been a challenge for me.

Moma Hen with baby chicks

The broody moma hatched 3 chicks and I hatched 5 chicks in an incubator. These 8 chicks are offspring by Cisco and Clinch, out of hens that are 50 % Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiner (LCN) and 50 % Swedish Flower Hen (SFH). This the chicks are 75 % LCN and 25 % SFH.

To be clear my goal is to raise purebred Lemon Cuckoo Niederrheiners. I do like the crossbred hens’ personality (and other traits), but the jury is still out on my opinion of these latest chicks.
